What do we actually get at the end?

A written recommendation document: the decision, the options we considered, the trade-offs behind each one, architecture diagrams where relevant, and short decision records explaining why. It belongs to you outright — no licence, no dependency on us, and it is written so a developer who has never met us can act on it.

How long does an engagement take?

Accepted Answer

A focused question — one stack decision, one architecture review — is usually one to two weeks. A broader legacy assessment or technical due diligence on a live system runs three to four weeks, and the timeline depends far more on how quickly we get access to code, infrastructure and the right people than on our side of the work.

Question 3

How is it priced?

Accepted Answer

Fixed fee for a defined scope, quoted after a free scoping call, or a day rate for ongoing advisory where the questions keep coming. Price tracks the breadth of the question and the size of the system, not the number of consultants in the room. We do not quote before we understand what you are actually deciding.

Question 4

Do you also build what you recommend?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it is deliberate — advice from people who never ship tends to underestimate the boring parts. But it is not a condition. We are equally happy to hand the document to your own developers or to another agency, and we will review that agency's proposal on request. The recommendation does not change based on who builds it.

Question 5

We already have a development team. Is this still useful?

Often more useful. Internal teams know the system better than any outsider will, but they rarely get uninterrupted time to evaluate options, and they are sometimes too close to the decision to break a deadlock. We act as a second opinion and a tie-breaker, and we write down the reasoning so it survives staff turnover.

What if your recommendation is not to do the project?

Then that is what the document says, and it has happened. If the current system is adequate for the next two years, if an off-the-shelf subscription covers the requirement, or if the real bottleneck is a process rather than software, saying so is the useful outcome. A short engagement that prevents a wrong six-figure build has already paid for itself.

Should we rewrite our legacy system?

Accepted Answer

Usually not all at once. Big-bang rewrites fail because the old system keeps changing while the new one is being built, and because the undocumented edge cases only surface at cutover. We look at which modules change often and which are stable and boring, then recommend wrapping the stable parts behind an interface and replacing the volatile ones incrementally.

Do you push a particular technology?

We build most often on Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js and PostgreSQL, and we say so up front rather than pretending to be neutral. But the correct stack is the one your team can hire for, maintain and afford to run. If that means keeping a working PHP or .NET system instead of moving it, that is what the recommendation will say.

Question 9

Can you do technical due diligence before an acquisition or investment?

Accepted Answer

Yes — code quality and test coverage, dependency and licence risk, infrastructure cost and scaling headroom, key-person risk, security posture, and a realistic estimate of what it costs to keep the system running for the next two years. Findings are stated factually under NDA, without inflating risk to look thorough.
